About

Dr. Sandra Shead

I have experience as a nurse at the bedside and in leadership roles in the civilian and military healthcare environments. I have worked in the areas of education, aeromedical evacuation, maternal-child nursing, and care of critically ill patients. I also have professional writing experience. However, I am brand new to blogging!I I am hoping we can work together, collaborate, and learn more about empowerment together.

I believe in lifelong learning and continue to gain new information and insight after earning a PhD in nursing education. In addition, I am passionate about nursing and working with nurses to improve patient outcomes through empowerment. Nurses are in a unique position to influence change at both the bedside and policy making levels. Currently, nurses are dealing with the increasing complexity of patient care, staffing shortages, changes in technology, mandatory overtime, and caring for patients with highly contagious and potentially life threatening diseases. As a result of caring for patients with these current trends, it is understandable that burnout and retention places further challenges in the nursing workforce.

I believe that nurses should be more than just providers of care, but should be change agents to make a real difference in the quality of care that patients receive. With Nurse Empower, you can learn about the concept of empowerment and how it manifests itself in the workforce and gain the necessary knowledge and skills to become a more effective advocate for your patients and the nursing profession.

Nurses need to understand that collectively, they have a powerful voice. By using this blog to gain knowledge and skills, you can share your stories and help shape the narrative surrounding the nursing profession. You can share your successes, challenges, lessons learned, and the joy and triumphs of being a nurse.
